Dr. Steve Tweedie’s training as a mathematician and geographer helped to develop his expertise in Cultural Geography and Quantitative Methods allowing complex relationships to be explored between golfers, their consumption behaviors and market trends. Steve’s love of Statistics makes him a disciplined researcher in developing precise models for application in analyzing markets, travel and transportation patterns and correlating variables that have direct impacts on clients’ business.
As a spatial analyst, he has used maps to evaluate and readjust sales territories, and relate the supply of golf courses to the demand for golf in macro and micro-markets. Brands utilizing his Sales Territory design expertise include Head Golf, Spalding, and Western Surety Insurance. Longitudes Group clients benefiting from his innovative research on US Travel Patterns include Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday and Greenwood Development on Hilton Head Island.
Steve has written numerous research articles on the economic & geographic trends in Sports and Sports Business. Including: "U.S. Skiing and Regional Economic Development: 1977-1989”, paper presented at Mountain Resort Development Conference, Vail, CO and “Sports Regions of America” published in American Demographics 1992.
In his 25+ years teaching at Oklahoma State University, his popular course ‘The Geography of Travel & Tourism’ was an important requirement for the students of the OSU College of Hotel Management. Steve received his B.A. in Mathematics from Cornell University along with a Masters in Education. He obtained his Ph.D. in Geography from Syracuse University.
Known as “the Stickman”, he has never come close to breaking 100, and seldom hits a ball into the air.
